Canon FD lens with or with out SSC?

i

I have a catechism FD 50mm f1.four without ssc and I have been approached past some asking if I wanted to purchase the ssc version of the same lens.

So my question is….what is SSC, what does information engineering science practice, What’southward the departure and is information technology worth it? He’s request $150 for it.

Help?

Thanks in advance.

Chad

Re: Canon FD lens with or with out SSC?

Southward.S.C. was Canon’southward super extra skillful lens coating to increase contrast and reduce flare. Does information technology work? Well, I shoot with a 55mm f1.two that has the red S.S.C. identifier and I can tell you that any kind of straight lite into the lens is like dropping a veil over it. Stopping down helps a piffling. It could be that my lens is total of dust merely yours might be too.

Here’southward an example from today shot at f8:

Your lens is too SCC. Don’t bother getting another one.

All FD 50mm 1.four lenses have Southward.C.C (Super Spectra Coating). The FD 50mm one.8 and some of the primeval FD lenses had simply Due south.C (Spectra coating). Many had SCC even though information engineering science was not written on the lens. All EF and EF-S lenses as well accept Due south.C.C (Super Spectra Coating).

More than detailed info here: FD Lenses (encounter Lens coatings, blueprint variants)

The “New” FD 50mm 1.iv has S.C.C just does non have it printed on the lens.

Three models of FD 50 f/one.4 (and these were preceded past 3 FL models). All three of the FD, too as the final FL l f/1.iv Ii and the EF 50 f/one.4 USM, accept the same optical formula of 7 elements in six groups with eight-blade aperture.

  1. FD l f/1.4. 1971, Silvery band breech lock, 55mm filter size.  Doesn’t have “S.S.C” on it, just is.
  2. FD fifty f/ane.4 Due south.Southward.C. 1973, Silverish band breech lock, 55mm filter, adds “Due south.Due south.C.” and minor changes.
  3. new FD l f/ane.iv 1979. Black bayonet mount with push button release, 52mm filter, new FD series has SSC coatings, doesn’t have “new” or “S.S.C.” anywhere on information technology.
