What Does The Bible Say About Photography

To address the beginning two questions:

Rom 12:1: Therefore, I urge you lot, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.

I Cor 10:31: So whether you eat or drink or whatsoever you do, practise it all for the glory of God.

My personal stance is that everything in life either pulls you lot toward God, or draws you away from information technology, even the “neutral” things. I enjoy mountain biking. I think Romans and I Corinthians both command me to glorify God in everything I practice; life is an act of worship. If part of my day is mountain biking, I can choose to do nothing at all to worship God through it, or worse, permit it to trump God in terms of my affections by, say, skipping church to go biking.

Alternatively, I could be sailing through the wood, while meditating on the creation around me, enjoying the fellowship of fellow believers, being conscious of my mental attitude and testimony to non-believers, thanking God for giving me the ability to ride, etc.

Another case: I honey PC gaming. I enjoy the process of building a practiced computer, playing games, etc. Past itself, its just a hobby, and ultimatey time that could be better spent. This is a hobby I share with my minor group though, and we recently committed to hosting LAN parties (reckoner games, related gatherings) at our church, and inviting our not-believing gamer friends to attend. Several non-Christians have come at present, into our church, where they would likely never accept come initially. Then, we’re edifice relationships with them, and developing opportunities to share Christ.

On question 3: The gospel is at the heart of salvation, only I remember anything can be used to assistance present that truth: Jesus used stories, Paul referenced false idols. Why not photography?

Question 4: Well, that’s non for me to answer 🙂

I’thou glad to know that others sit at work and do the aforementioned matter that I am doing right now, on flickr, looking up lens, reviews, etc. I recall if photography brings yous joy I don’t think God would desire you to put information technology down. Yous can utilise it for Him. I used to feel the aforementioned way but then I got to thinking. Exercise you know how happy it makes a mom or dad to see shots of their children? Not anybody can afford the prices of a proffessional photographer. Several times I take went to ballgames that I cared nothing about and took shots of a friends kid. Yous would think you lot had given them the earth. That is a ministry to me. It makes people happy and gives me joy knowing I take made them happy and it gives me do at my hobby. Even total strangers I have given my email accost to and forwarded them a shot I took of them. People actually do dearest photos of themselves whether they admit it or non. Several of my shots I feel like God has spoken a verse to me and I relayed them onto that photo. Other people may not see what I saw and may fifty-fifty think it weird but that is what I heard every bit I was shooting. If merely one person opens their bible to read that scripture then that is awesome. I may not ever know it but God does. And then aye yous can utilize your camera as a ministry building tool in some shape, way or form. If you just make i person happy, then you have ministered to someone. This calls for lots of complimentary piece of work however. Who volition ever decide if they are expert enough to make a living at photography? I certain couldn’t say I was ever good enough and I’k not for sure that I would want to make a living at doing it. It becoming my job may take the joy out of it and I don’t e’er want to lose my passion for photography. If y’all like your stuff, so that is all that matters. You may very well take a calling so definately pray nigh information technology. God will provide if information technology is your calling. That’due south just my 2 cents.

Wow, this is very similar to what I have also been struggling with recently, besides!

I finished a photography A Level and stupidly expected the photography to somehow merely flow from nowhere when I’d qualified! Instead I was left with a full anti-climax and no existent management, except that I really wanted to be a Christian lensman.

I booked an 60 minutes with ane of our curates and explained how I felt and gave her a listing of some ideas I’d had. I experience then much better now, like I have started down the right road. I desire my gift – and I at present accept that it is a gift from God and that he does want me to praise Him and evangelise through information technology – to bring others to the religion and to demonstrate God’s beautiful Creation.

Is it right to make money from information technology? Well, yes. There is no shame in earning a wage. I vest to a Christian Arts Club and our website sells the download rights and prints. It supports Christian arts and makes us able to go along spreading the gospel. As for whether you’re adept enough – I inquire myself that every other 24-hour interval. Examination the waters and put some images up for sale – if people buy your images, you’re skilful enough!

I prayed a lot and denied my ‘souvenir’ for a long fourth dimension. I wondered if it was more about what I wanted to do rather than God calling me, but things happened and if God doesn’t want me to be a professional Christian photographer, I’m sure he’ll detect a way to cease me!

In regards to Photography for a living, in that location is the state of the economy and the photo/art business to consider, while I believe that God tin practise anything He wills to practice, there is a larger picture that he is dealing with than only our chore preference. He dose not always change our situation, just rather our outlook on the state of affairs we are in.

I have had a photography business in the by but since moved to another land, with the economy the fashion information technology is, I do not call up I will be starting my studio up over again….
I take likewise had the pleasure of tutoring other photographers who were looking to go into the business of photography, a couple who were even making more sales than I was… not because they were a better lensman, only becuase they were better at maketing and had a lot of personal contacts who were marketing for them.

In regards to using photography to prise God, equally mentioned anything y’all exercise tin bring praise to God, given it is done in His will and by his power. It is your actions, your words, and the love y’all show others that really matter…..Your piece of work dose non need to exist “Christian” with cute slogans/images….I believe it has a geater impact when it is just good work and someone asks you about it…..its an open up door for a take a chance to witness…

I tin can fully empathise how people tin get bored with their jobs. But it doesn’t mean that God is non calling you to be there. Y’all really have to stride back and be honest with yourself. Are you really seeking God in your workplace? In your relationships with co-workers? In your everyday mental attitude at work? Because, as I accept found from experience, if we don’t seek God in these everyday places, we well-nigh likely won’t notice Him.

I remember photography is an amazing thing. It is a hobby that many people take turned into a profession. I have a strong desire to do that. Simply it doesn’t mean I need to quit my job to pursue that. I can piece of work hard at it in my complimentary time and pray that opportunities nowadays themselves. If you are honestly seeking His guidance most taking a leap into the photography profession, He won’t telephone call you to make a drastic determination to quit your job and pick upwardly a camera with out telling you offset. Go on praying, keep reading, and if that doesn’t settle your heart, start fasting.

Going to Scripture there is plain nothing mentioned as to what career we should have, that would exist a liberty issue ( unless we endeavor to justify a job engaging in sin, of course!). The issue for a Christian is that of attitude re what nosotros do and how nosotros do it. “And whatever ye do, do it heartily as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Col three: 23-24. …”for whatsoever is non of faith is sin.” Rom 14:23b

We are non promised riches on this earth as Christians as State of israel was “For nosotros brought zilch into this world, and information technology is sure we can comport cipher out . And having food and raiment (clothing) let us exist therewith content.” ane Tim 6:seven-8. A quick update on the photography front… Just fabricated a rather nice size investment into lighting equipment to take my portrait photography to the next level. It merely arrived today. It was supposed to arrive on Friday giving me three more days to play and larn, only didn’t. Set up back…simply a lesson in patience.

Had a fantastic studio space literally less than half a mile from my firm that was a community based arts effort. It was going to be the perfect location to do impromptu sessions, portrait sets, and to host photography gatherings. Simply institute out concluding night that they had to close the doors on it. No matter what we determine for a career, and no thing how much we enjoy photography, photography doesn’t salve anyone, the Gospel does( For I am not aback of the Gospel of Christ, for It is the power of God unto salvation to anybody that believeth, Rom 1:16). “I have a simple definition of success: Do the best y’all can with what yous accept where y’all are. In essence, success is making the most of every opportunity. Spiritual maturity is seeing and seizing God-ordained opportunities. Think of every opportunity as God’due south gift to you lot. What you do with those opportunities is your gift to God. When you ask near making a living at making and selling something like photographs, you are looking at hard work both in the practice of prototype making as well as the exercise of running a business. Many times these two abilities aren’t in the aforementioned person. Information technology might be because they are inherently opposed to each other. Artists hate the thought of selling themselves and business organisation minds have difficulty understanding the artistic “muse”. The ability to be a good business organisation person and a great artist is extremely rare. There are always compromises that inhibit/frustrate one or the other. The ideal is for the creative person to have someone who volition promote and sell their work and so they can have the freedom to create. Anyone can sell anything as long as the person buying it thinks they need it. Hence a lot of bad artists/photographers tin notwithstanding make a living if they accept slick business skills and a good agent
.
Adding a Christian title to yourself, still, will telephone call for integrity in your business organisation relations. Whatsoever your theology, the reality of living in “the world” and non of it means that you should be enlightened of the greater Proficient and The Higher Ability that will ultimately exist your estimate. We phone call His Son Jesus who sent usa the Holy Spirit to aid u.s.a. in our living and will help u.s. with our choices. Doing business equally a Christian requires a different methodology than “the world” teaches. Making a living equally a photographer tin exist done and is being done well by Christians every day. I encourage you to have a long sober await at whether photography is indeed your calling or your “avo-calling”. Perhaps commencement as an assistant in some way or taking a office-time task volition help you improve understand what it’s really like before y’all quit your day chore. It would be distressing to hate doing what yous once loved.

I heard a man tell the story of his cracking-grandfather as a cattle driver on the Chisholm Trail. He said, “That certain was a hard style to serve the Lord!”. Driving cattle, photography, or any work is just another fashion of serving the Lord, my friends.

A good friend once told me something that I’ve found to be true, “Piece of work very difficult doing the best yous can while giving all the glory to God and He will provide the increase.”
